A new building under construction in the CBD.
Between the concrete column and the steelwork you can see a base isolator. I am pleased to see them being used here at last: despite the technology being invented here, before the earthquakes we had only one building in the entire city that used them.
In my opinion they should be mandatory in all new buildings and retrofitted to existing earthquake-prone buildings.
